10:44 pm on December 23rd in Northville, MI. I’m seated at my desk looking out the front window. We’re perched at the end of the culd-e-sac. It’s 2 degrees with wind swirling like an out of control parachute. I went outside this morning for five minutes to move some of the patio furniture that’d been tossed by the gusts over to the garage. Five minutes was enough to make my fingers feel like they were close to requiring amputation. I stayed in my pj’s all day and felt the warmth of the fire and the family. It was a lazy day without guilt. Let’s learn a bit more about it.
I began with J in the kitchen a smidge after six. We shared a crumb cake donut after he located the elf trapped in the dining room blinds. I ground the beans and brewed the coffee. My head hurt so I decided to pound forty ounces of water with two Waterboy hangover remedy powders. It’s loaded with electrolytes, magnesium citrate, theanine, ginger and b12. It leaves all the other hangover powders in the dust. I got it back when I was on the hunt to relieve my 3-4 day a week hangover. It worked on my headache and helped me start my day busting with energy and euphoria. I also took my daily assortment from my old lady pill organizer. Turmeric, prozac, antabuse, and lipitor. I stopped taking the naltrexone I had to help with the cravings. I forgot my fish oil, better get that back into the assortment.
I let J start using electronics fifteen minutes early because he was chomping at the bit to play the Pokemon Switch game we rented at the library. I dispatched some anal goop and got over to the computer for my 7am Zoom AA meeting. I spoke of the feeling of “hygge” I was feeling which means cozy and comfortable. I related the peace I felt strolling through a relatively empty Costco at 7pm the night prior. They’d done more business than ever on Wednesday night but last night most folks were girding their loins for the storm so I was able to push my cart unencumbered by any traffic jams. Up and down every aisle I went looking for potential purchases. Just waiting for something to remind me of a need I didn’t know I had. Even with a $156 rewards certificate I still dropped $800. $200 of that was the king crab legs. They’re delicious and the expenditure won’t negatively impact my life with the exception of a little less money for the kids when we die.
I tied up a couple loose ends at work, plugged and painted some dents in the wall that go along with raising two rough housers, then reclined to read a memoir called “The Men we Reaped” about a small town black girl from the rurual Mississippi gulf coast who goes to Stanford then UofM but feels the pull of her hometown as drugs and violence kill five of her friends and family in the succession of around five years. It’s pretty good but she could use a bit more swagger in her expression. Her style is too obviously taught in an MFA program. I’m glad it’s not engrossing enough to keep me from falling asleep while reading, which was necessary after only clocking 5hrs 27 minutes sleep the night before.
By the time my nap was over there were xmas cookies waiting for frosting on the counter. I popped a bottle of mexican coke and made a ham and honey mustard sandwich on sweet hawaiian bread. The boys were getting restless and sugared after the cookie sampling so we did some pretend animal fighting where I was an elephant and they were lions. I managed to throw them around without breaking any of our bones. I also fit in some push ups and ab work to cope with some cabin fever I was feeling. We watched the Charlie Brown Christmas Story which James enjoyed and H pouted over having to watch. Then I did a 7 day Starz trial so we could watch Spider-Man No Way Home. Despite dropping out for another nap during the mid-section of the movie I woke up with enough time to get the gist and enjoy from Peter’s aunt’s death onward (spoiler alert!). The kids were bopping all over the family room shooting imaginary webs and beating on each other. After the movie we FaceTimed my sis in Colorado since it’s her 42nd b-day. Bedtime arrived for the boys along with the typical resurgence of hunger so we set them up with some pizza rolls. H finally tried them only after challenging mom to a dance off to Astronomia. He had to try them if he lost the dance off and I had to give it to mom for a great moonwalk and more rhythm. H won the creativity category though. Once their melatonin kicked in they got whiney and needed sleep. I let H hit the pillow without brushing his teeth which is a mistake I’ve already forgiven myself for. J went right to bed on his own because he wants tomorrow to be here asap so he can be that much closer to santa day. He promised to wake me up at 6am tomorrow because he’s expecting a departure gift from Elfy after his last night on watch.
Once the little guys were down we turned on some Outlander. It took us a while to figure out where we’d left off so we only ended up watching 3/4 of an episode. There was enough steam coming from Jamie and Clare to facilitate family room nudity followed by clit circles and couch pumping for five or so minutes. I left it in for as long as possible to ensure all post-ejaculate had been dispensed. Ah the joys of a vasectomy! And that about brings the curtain down on a cozy December 23rd. On to the Eve!
